You Have What It Takes

One of the greatest obstacles we all have to climb, is that sense within us that we don’t measure up or that we are not good enough. Most of us are in a constant internal struggle to accept the fact that we really have something to offer.

Past failures, verbal abuse and low self-esteem are some reasons why we look down on ourselves. Sometimes when we look at others and see how excellently they present themselves, we become intimidated and crawl into our “shells.” It so easy to think that we are not worth the attention, so easy for us to feel like we don’t meet up, however, God wants us to see ourselves differently.

There is a story in the scriptures about a young man named Gideon, he was an unassuming man with a serious inferiority complex.  When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon and addressed him as a mighty warrior, Gideon responded with doubt about his abilities to carry out the call on his life.

Judges 6:14-15 says “The Lord turned to him and said, “Go in the strength you have and save Israel out of Midian’s hand. Am I not sending you?”15 “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.”

Although in God’s eyes, Gideon was capable, in God’s eyes Gideon had the strength to deliver the people of Israel from bondage, he did not feel the same way. Who you are, is different from how you feel. You may feel inadequate, you may feel like you don’t have what it takes but that is not who you are. There is a need to view ourselves through the lens of God’s word, accept what His word says and act right away. Gideon was living in fear and doubt until he became assured of his true identity.

Heb 10:35-36 says “35 So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.”

Friends, you have what it takes to make it, you have what it takes to run that business successfully, you have what it takes to be a good parent, a doting husband or wife, you have what it takes to be loved and respected, just take sides with God word today. God created us excellently and He gave us unique abilities and talents that no one else has. There is a God-given assignment for your life and our responsibility is not just to recognize that we have these talents but also be bold enough to use what we have regardless of how we feel.

God bless.
