One of the most humbling and yet encouraging realities of life is that there is always room for improvement. Regardless of how far you have come or how discouraged you are about your situation, there is always something you can do improve the situation.
In other words, you are yet to see the best of you or that situation. You might say ” I am a terrible father, mother, wife, friend, employer or employee, I don’t think there is much I can do the change that.” You might even feel stuck in a particular situation but don’t give up, there is always something you can add, there is a step you can take, there is always room for improvement.
2 Peter 2:5-9 says,
“ For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.” (KJV)
The bible urges us to make the effort to “add” to our faith goodness or as some translations would say “excellence,” to our faith. We ought not to be satisfied with the level that we are in, we must keep pressing on. Verse 8 says that if we have these qualities in “increasing” measure, we will be productive and not ineffective. To avoid being ineffective and unproductive in whatever we do, we have to find ways to improve ourselves and resist the plans of the enemy to keep us stagnant.
Friends resist the urge to beat yourself up, resist the impression in your mind that you can never rise above the level that you are in now. Add excellence to your faith, seek ways to improve yourself, go to school if need be, read some more books on the issue, take some steps towards the goal. Always check your situation and find ways to improve.
You can be that excellent parent, you can be that excellent boss, you can be that excellent friend, you can be that excellent minister, you can be that excellent sibling. You can be all that God wants you to be. All you have to do is thank God for where you are but most especially thank Him for where He is taking you to.
As longs as you are alive, there will always be hope and lots of room for improvement, so don’t give up on you because still believes in you.
