Have you been in a situation that just made you want to quit? Perhaps you are working a job that seems too stressful, in a marriage or ministry that is over bearing, started a business that just doesn’t seem to take off and you are wondering what to do next.
You look for answers but nothing seems to show up, you have reached your wit’s end and the only logical conclusion is for you to “close shop” and quit. You are thinking of throwing in the towel, you are about to give up on that marriage, you are getting ready to throw caution to the wind and give up on yourself.
Friends, be encouraged, “Don’t Give Up!!!” I think it will be somewhat of a consolation to know that you are not alone. We all go through times when we want to give up but we must remind ourselves that God who loves us is with us and can help us in times of trouble or indecision.
There is a story in the bible that intrigues me every time I read it. It is the story about a time King David faced a tumultuous situation. David and his men had just returned home to find out that their wives and children had been taken captive by the enemy. (1 Sam 30:3-19). The bible tells us that David and his men wept until they had no more strength in them (1 Sam 30:4), in other words, they simply gave up on recovering their possessions as well as their families.
However, something happened to David, He suddenly realized who was in his corner. He realized that he served a God that was bigger than the situation he was facing. He realized that a confirmation from God was all the motivation he needed to move ahead and after a long period of crying, the bible says “….But David encouraged himself in the Lord”(1 Sam 3:6). It is interesting that the bible doesn’t say that “David encouraged himself,” it says “David encouraged himself in the Lord,” which is a big difference.
When we try in our strength to motivate ourselves, relying on our physical abilities or talents to get us over the hump, we fail miserably. Our trust should be on God in moments when we want to quit. Only God can get us over the hump and when we encourage ourselves based on what God has said to us and who He is then we sure will succeed. David did this and sought after God’s guidance regarding the situation. He would later recover everything that taken away from him and his men.
I don’t know you are working on or what it is that is making you quit but please be encouraged not to give up. Don’t give on what God is doing in your marriage, don’t give up on that child that is misbehaving, don’t give up on that dream, ministry or project and most especially don’t give up on yourself because God has not given up on you.
So take a step, take sides with what God is saying about you even if you can’t see it manifesting and remember 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 which says
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
God bless you.
