My Thoughts About Worship

Motivational speaker and salesman Zig Ziglar made a very famous quote which says “Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude.” I completely agree with this and no matter how well you know about something it is your attitude that determines your success in life.

I believe this quote is a principle in life that can also be applied to worship. Worshipping God is all about the attitude we have towards Him. Regardless of your background, your theological prowess, education, exposure, if your general attitude towards God or worship is wrong then you will never grow higher and deeper in your experience with God.

So what are some right attitudes in worship that we all need to cultivate? There are many of them but let us start with an attitude of reverence. The word “reverence” according to according to means, “a feeling or attitude of deep respect tinged with awe; veneration.”

An individual with an attitude of reverence approaches the things of God especially worship with a deep sense of respect and honor.  Such an individual exhibits daily a high sense of awe for God and His ways. When we have or have cultivated this attitude of reference, worship is no longer taken lightly; it is serious business which we must strive to participate in daily.

King David said in Psalm 5:7 “But I, by your great love, can come into your house; in reverence I bow down toward your holy temple.”

So how can we develop an attitude of reverence for God? First of all, God has to become “BIG” on our minds and hearts. When I say “BIG” I mean we need to make God more important than we feel He is. God needs to be given more “weight” in our lives. God needs to become the very center of our existence. God must be valued more than any other thing in life. This sounds almost extreme but I tell you we will never have reverence for anything that is not “BIG” on our minds. Another thing we can do is write a list of some of the things God has done for you this week, you will be very surprised at how much he has done. When you have it all written down, thank Him for them. As you perform this task weekly, God will begin to take His place in your life.

Also we can ensure that you are familiar with God’s protocol or His ways, you can find that out from the word of God. I have discovered that there is a protocol to royalty and if you are ignorance of them, there will be a tendency to be irreverence.  Finally, let us endeavor to grow in this area because God does deserve our reverence and Worship. As you go through your day, please think of creative ways to cultivate this attitude of reverence to God, I would be happy to hear your thoughts on this. God bless you.
