My Thoughts About Worship

John Osteen (Joel Osteen’s father) of blessed memory tells a story that I found very funny yet profound. He said one day he was driving to church and his feet got heavy an expression to mean that he was speeding. He said that as he continued, the Holy Spirit began to tell him to slow down because there was a police car parked not too far off that would pull him over if he did not stop. He did not listen and not too long after that just like he was told, a police car pull out from the exact sport he had been warned about and pulled him over.

When the police officer got to John Osteen car, he recognized him instantly. “ Hey I know you, you are that preacher on TV.” John Osteen was so embarrassed  and said, “ Officer you are not going to believe this but God warned me not to speed because I would get pulled over, officer aren’t you glad that God knows where you park?”

It is funny but it is true. God know where we “Park” everyday. He hears us especially when no one else can. He knows us better than we know ourselves and He alone can take us to where we need to be in life. God is the God of comfort and only He can comfort you if you let us. God is not an inanimate being that’s far away somewhere in heaven. He is not an in personal individual that comes down to judge us when we make mistakes. No friends God is real, He is not only real but alive and very aware of where you are in life and what you are going through.  Give God a chance to hug you today, give Him a chance to soothe your pain and grief. Allow Him to touch those areas of confusion.

David said in psalm 77:2 “When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; at night I stretched out untiring hands, and I would not be comforted.” David initially refused the comfort from God even though God was aware of his situation.

Thank  God though that David did not remain in this state, later on he says in Psalm 77:10-12,“Then I thought, “To this I will appeal: the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand.  I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.  I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.” Your ways, God, are holy. What god is as great as our God? You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples. With your mighty arm you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. “

True worship occurs when we trust in our Lord’s ability to comfort us and meditate on His abilities to solve the issues. Sometimes worship is only about what we have to say to God but also what we allow Him to do in our lives.  God bless.
